Help, I’ve fallen and can’t get up!

Did you know you can call 911 and tell them you need a FALL ASSIST? Just tell them that it’s not an emergency, but that you need help after a fall. The SIVFD will come to your rescue.

Some public service information from your neighbors at the Sauvie Island Fire District:

Over the years members of SIFD have come to the aid of SI neighbors who have experienced a non injury fall in their homes. This service is referred to as ‘Lift Assist’. The typical scenario is that someone has fallen down and is not injured, but is unable to get up off the floor unassisted.

If you ever find yourself in this situation, it is appropriate to call 911. Tell the 911 operator that you are uninjured, but unable to get up on your own. The 911 operator will send a message to SIFD that you need assistance getting up off the floor and back into bed or your favorite easy chair.

  • Don’t worry, an ambulance will not be dispatched.

  • Don’t feel embarrassed. This situation happens to your fellow SI neighbors more often than you might think.

  • Don’t hesitate to call 911 because it is the middle of the night. Your neighbor volunteer SIFD members are more than happy to help you anytime day or night. There is no charge for this service.

  • As we assist you, we will offer to check your vitals and see if you have any injuries.

If you have family members or neighbors who live on SI and may not know about this service, please share the above information with them.
